Obuchukwuneme (Obum) Calais is a board-certified family nurse practitioner (FNP-C), licensed advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) and certified chronic care manager (CCM). She also holds certificates in basic life support (BLS), advanced cardiovascular life support (ACLS), pediatric advanced life support (PALS). She has been a registered nurse since 2010 and a nurse practitioner since 2018.
Obum earned her associate, bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing and a post-master’s certificate in nursing practice at Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas. Her experience includes family practice, women’s health, pediatrics, mental health, geriatrics, managed care case management, long-term care and telehealth. Her primary clinical interests are primary care for all ages, chronic conditions and older adults.
A desire to impact patient care in a holistic and empowering way drew Obum to the healthcare field. Her philosophy focuses on prevention, evidence-based medicine and a collaborative relationship between healthcare provider and patient. She likes to spend time educating patients about their conditions and helping them develop plans for a healthier life, and she enjoys being on the forefront of innovative ways to improve people’s quality of life. She hopes that patients see her as a good listener who helps them feel better.
Outside of her practice, Obum enjoys reading, writing, travel and spending time with her family.
