Carl Josehart -2016This issue of the journal begins and ends with education – from our cover story about the TIRR Memorial Hermann Education Academy to a listing of upcoming education classes for professionals – an appropriate parallel to the discipline of rehabilitation. Education is how we became health care providers in the beginning, and we pass the torch of knowledge on to others in our field.

That’s only half the story. We focus expertise and resources to ensure that our own rehabilitation professionals stay current with emerging knowledge, and encourage them to create new best practices to validate through research. Our educators are now the learning hub for the Memorial Hermann Rehabilitation Network, which stretches across Greater Houston.

Education programs at TIRR Memorial Hermann are also outward facing. Rehabilitation professionals come here from around our country and several others to deepen their knowledge and improve their skills. Through the Independent Living Research Utilization program, sponsorships and other outreach programs we work to create communities that are welcoming to everyone.

Education is our most powerful weapon to bring about change. With that in mind, we keep moving forward.
